Popcorn Flicks in the Park
I know you don’t think of Florida when you hear about Central Park, you are probably thinking about a more famous park. Don’t discount the wonder of Central Park in Winter Park though, it is a beautiful place to visit and they also offer something FREE for you to do with your family that few people know about. Once a month they offer a movie in the park for free to anyone who wants to visit, they call it Popcorn Flicks in the Park.
How does it work?
The park has teamed up with a local non-profit alternative Cinema company, Enzian, in the area to offer this for visitors and locals alike. I know it has to be great for this company to get their name out but what a great trade off. Here is how it works: As long as weather permits, movies are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month at 8pm. This time might fluctuate and run a little later during the summer months due to the sun going down later in the day. If you are looking for a great little getaway from the Theme Parks and you would also like to save a little money during your trip, just bring a blanket and some food to snack on and have a great movie experience with your family.
What type of movies do they play?
Well, they don’t show first run movies but you really can’t expect them to in this type of venue. Nevertheless, they play some great older movies like, Grease, Shrek and Space Jam, to name a few. These are movies that are really timeless and no matter what age you are they are great movies to see and share with your family. Each “flick” is picked as the type of movie that will be family friendly and can be viewed by all. Come early and enjoy the park before the movie and get a good location in front of the screen.
Where is Central Park Winter Park?
The great news is, it is located about 7 miles North East of Central Orlando in the Heart of the City of Winter Park. It is so close that it only takes about 15 minutes to get there.
