Downtown Disney to become Disney Springs by 2016

Out with the old and in with the new is not something people always want to hear but in this case, it is going to be a great change to the Orlando Florida Disney area. I don’t think there is anyone who has visited Orlando who did not spend some of their time walking around Downtown Disney. Why wouldn’t you? The sights are fantastic, it is free (at least to walk and browse). There are wonderful shops and dining that you will not find any where else. It is a great place to bring the family and enjoy the entertainment together.

Disney Springs – So why the change?

I think Disney wants to change the way people look at this location and give them something new to enjoy. They will be expanding the current location to over double its current size. While doing this, they will be adding in a parking garage, to handle all of the additional visitors, as well as many new restaurants, shops and entertainment. After closing Pleasure Island a few years ago, Disney had to figure out what they were going to do with all of that extra space. I think they are heading in the right direction. I know that they wanted to appeal to the adult crowd by having Pleasure Island but Disney and adult fun is not a good combination in my mind. So, if you think that Downtown Disney is wonderful now, wait until they finish it in 2016.

What will it look like?

Well, they are getting ready to start construction in April of 2013 and it is supposed to look like a Florida Waterfront Community. This should appeal to the vacationers as well as the locals in the area. This will just add to the magic that Disney is so great at providing everyone who visits one of their locations.

Updates will be given as we see the progression of this new Disney site move forward.
