What is the difference between Disney PhotoPass and Memory Maker?
It can be very confusing when you are trying to understand the difference between Disney PhotoPass and Disney Memory Maker. As you are working through picking your Disney Resort and Theme Park options, you see an option to purchase Disney’s, Memory Maker but not the PhotoPass. Let’s take a look at the difference between these two options.
Disney PhotoPass
The first thing to know about the Disney PhotoPass is, it is available to all guests who visit the Disney World Theme Parks. Yes, this is a complimentary (free) service provided by Disney to capture the amazing memories of your trip. Disney Cast Members will be located around the parks ready to snap amazing photos you can not get by yourself. Incredible photos with your favorite Disney Characters, Locations, and there are even some special ride pictures as well.
In order to get your photos taken by a Disney Cast member, all you have to do, is get in line and wait for your opportunity. The Cast Member will ask for your Magic Band, PhotoPass card, or Annual Pass to bind your photos to your own PhotoPass account. From the Disney App or the online Disney MyExperience, you can create an account and log in to see your photos at any time. Once you find the photos and videos you are interested in, you have the option of paying for a package to download them. Or, you can just purchase the Memory Maker.
Memory Maker
So, now we understand how the PhotoPass works, what is the purpose of the Memory Maker? Well, as mentioned above, once your free pictures have been taken, you can view them in the Disney App of the online Disney MyExperience. But, you don’t get them for free. Each of the images will have a large watermark on them by default. If you want to get rid of the watermark, you have to purchase a package to download them. This is where the Disney Memory Maker shines.
The Disney Memory Maker takes all of the thought out of purchasing packages for a few pictures and videos. When you purchase the Memory Maker, you get to download everything that is available in the PhotoPass system.
If your goal is to keep all of the pictures taken by the Disney PhotoPass system, the Disney Memory Maker is a really great option.
How long do you have to download the PhotoPass photos?
With the Disney Memory Maker options, once you log in to the PhotoPass site, you have 30 days of access to the pictures. If you need more time, you can extend the time by purchasing an additional length of days. When we use the Memory Maker option, we just download all of the photos and videos at the end of the trip so we do not have to be concerned about the time limit.
